Children’s Minister Sheila Reid
Born in the Midlands, Sheila grew up in Scotland after her father died. At twelve she became a Christian. Attending Aberdeen Chinese Christian Fellowship led her to love Chinese. Interest in children grew as a Sunday School teacher, in work with mentally handicapped, and after Bible College in Glasgow, being a dorm auntie to OMF children in Malaysia. During 1984-87 Sheila worked at MCCC, as Bible Class Coordinator and in Student Outreach, during which Pastor John from MCCC and Ruby from COCM gave her a Chinese name—韋詩樂!
Following a year as Youth Worker in her Aberdeen church, then a PGCE and Religious Education teaching, she relocated to Hong Kong in 1991, where she taught English prior to working with drug addicts. She became one of our MCCC missionaries.
Sheila moved to Cambodia in 2001. Forming the EFC Children’s Commission with a Khmer team brought great joy as churches, workers and parents were equipped to value, listen to and protect children plus help them reach their potential. Returning to UK in 2016, Sheila spent three years at World Horizons UK in Wales before re-joining our staff part-time as our Children’s Minister.
